Greenlaws Firestone Level Dig - The Second Working (27/07/14)

Back to Greenlaws Mine Trip Index

After the first working was broken into and the excitement died down the digging of shaft started again, but it did not last long. In the opposite corner from the first entrance, another one was found which gave access to a bigger second set of workings. The workings were filled with fantastic fluorite cavities that had cubes ranging from 1 to 10cm in size. In terms of artifacts, a number of items were found: matches, wooden pegs, blue oxide coated large steel nails, tin bottles with stoppers, a wheel barrow (badly decomposed) clay balls with candle stubs, a potential shoe lace, barrow boards, and a piece of tobacco pipe (part of stem with partial bowl attached).
